Bacho Mangual - Board of Director of Legend of Vinyl
Bacho Mangual, born on November 10th, 1954 is a true Scorpio, fulfilling the astrological
prophesy of love and pleasure through out his music. Back in the late sixties and
early seventies, he was seen dancing to the top DJ's of the day. Bacho was one of the
best dancers in the city-attested to by a collection of ribbons, plaques and awards.
He became so enmeshed by what he called "city disco" that he began to study the art of
spinning; ultimately taking his talent back to Revelation disco in Brooklyn. During his five
year performance at the famous nightspot, he developed a style that became the standard by which Brooklyn judged its entertainment industry.
Bacho then more "passionately" involved himself with the spinning; he literally became the atmosphere at the internationally known, controversial couples' nightclub, Plato's Retreat. For eleven years he stroked sensuality into New York, offering the ultimate in progressive musical decadence. responding to a worldwide clientele. He developed a highly varied and extensive international record collection, still influential in his work today.
Throughout his thirty-one year career, bacho has been regarded as a tastemaker, holding reporterships with a myriad of radio charts, IDRC and For the Record record pools, Cash Box, and Record World magazines, and to the voice of the music industry, Billboard Magazine.
In the late seventies, involved with mixing records as well, Bacho plied his talent in creating the album "Fless" with Jeremy Spencer Band on Atlantic Records.
Then he discovered Skipworth and Turner, and collaborating with engineer Patrick Adams, gave New York a hot summer with the number one hit single "Thinking About Your Love" on Island Records. The subsequent single "Can't Give Her Up" did extremely well on the dance charts, as did the album, "Thinking About Your Love" on Warner Brother Records, which remained on the charts for 16 weeks.
As always, Bacho continues to make his mark on the recording and club industrie, while still maintaining great enthusiasm for the newest sound around. Now with the offer of going overseas to Europe and Asia, playing music to share his talent of what disco in the 70's was about, is his goal. To tell the story of the clubs I've worked at you need another chapter, so these are the clubs I have played at and shared my talent:
Revelation - Broadway
Le JarDen - Ice Palace
Studio 54 - Plato's Retreat
Club New York - Crystal Ballroom
Bon Jour - Lime Light
Anita - Touch of Class - And now Checkmates
Ref Book: Last Party (Studio 54)
"The greatest feeling in the world is to love, and pour out my love for people throughout my music",
says Bacho. Simply stated, he forever proves it an understatement.
